Seawater Intake & Brine Outfall

IET has been involved in number of seawater desalination projects involving offshore intake and brine outfall pipelines for small coastal RO plants to large IWPs.  The key parameters addressed from Concept / Feasibility stage and to the design stage are as follows:

  • Geology (onshore and offshore), Topography (onshore) and bathymetry (offshore)
  • Distance offshore for intake to achieve minimum head requirements
  • Distance offshore for outfall to mitigate for any potential recirculation issues
  • Behaviour (tidal or otherwise) of the sea, sediment transportation, wave action
  • Construction form of the intake and outfall pipelines
  • Transient analysis for seawater intake pipelines
  • Active & Passive screens, mechanically raked Bar Screens, Drum Screens
  • Seawater Pumping Systems
